Presentation Opportunities and Competitions

There are several opportunities for Summit participants to present a paper, enter a competition, and conduct demos. These include:

Presentations

Hot eHealth Research Results and Translating Findings into eHealth Practice: This session highlights and promotes the application of scientific research methods to identify effective eHealth solutions. A peer review panel evaluated the abstracts and selected five papers for presentation at the Summit. From the five finalists, the panel made two $1000 cash awards to the "Best eHealth Research Paper" in 2003 at the Summit.

eHealth Research Paper Co-Winners:

“An Internet Intervention as Adjunctive Therapy for Pediatric Encopresis”
Presented by Lee Ritterband, Assistant Professor, Behavioral Medicine, University of Virginia Health System
“The webVisit Study: Impact of Online Doctor-Patient Communication on Satisfaction and Cost of Care”
Presented by Eric Zimmerman, SVP Marketing, RelayHealth

True Confessions of an eHealth Developer: In this session, presenters will describe a recent business, application development, or research problem; explain the approach that was used; and relay what was learned as a result. The lessons learned should be relevant to other Summit participants. The most frank and/or useful "confessions" was recognized.

Best True Confession:

Robert Pretlow, President, eHealth International

Open Space: This session enables participants to engage in a small group dialogue around specific issues of interest. Up to five "open space" concurrent sessions will be available at the meeting to choose from. Any Summit participant can volunteer to lead a discussion on a relevant topic. Presenters are free to organize their time and session format, but it is strongly recommended that the bulk of the time allotted be devoted to discussions among session participants. Open space presenters will NOT have access to overheads, PowerPoint slides, or any AV equipment. If more than five submissions are received, we will ask registered participants to vote on the topics of greatest interest to them, and the most popular topics will be selected for the session.

Competitions and Demos

eHealth WIT (Working Innovation Technology) Teams Competition: The purpose of this competition is to promote collaboration and team problem solving among Summit participants from disparate backgrounds and organizations. Small group teams will collectively develop an eHealth solution to one of several real problems in health or healthcare. The teams will tackle one of the problems through a series of small group meetings, and present their solution to the entire audience and a judging panel on the final day of the Summit. The team with the best solution--based on innovation, potential impact, practicality, and sustainability of the proposed solution--will receive an award. All registered attendees will be asked to select the problem they wish to work on in advance of the meeting.

WIT Team Winner:

Purple Team: “Health Wizard”
Team Co-Leaders: Darrell Atkin, President, The Launch Pad; Royer Cook, President, ISA Group
Presented by: Peter Dunbar, Associate Professor, Anesthesiology, University of Washington

eHealth Developers' Summit Award for Application Excellence: The purpose of the Award for Application Excellence is to recognize and promote high quality eHealth application development. In 2002, an award was made to the Best Online CME Course. In 2003, we will give an "eHealth Impact Award" to the application/product that has made a substantial impact on health or health care. The Nominations Committee reviewed public and panel nominations based on a set of criteria related to impact and significance. Summit participants voted for the winner at the meeting.

eHealth Impact Award Co-Winners:

eProcrates Rx
WebMD Health

Table Chats: This session allows developers to conduct one-to-one table top demos of their products/services. The Table Chats allow select presenters to informally get feedback on a product/project, or solicit partnerships or develop collaborations. Only table top demos with laptops are allowed (no displays or exhibits). High speed Internet access will be available. Only registered attendees may submit a Table Chat abstract.
